Crossing the centerline of traffic is commonly caused by driver inattention. Factors of innattention include use of a cell phone, operation of radio controls, eating/drinking, or driver fatigue. The Missouri Statutory Rules of the Road require Missouri motorists to exercise ordinary care in the operation of their vehicles. This includes maintaining attention ahead and laterally while driving any car. Failure to exercise ordinary care typically means the driver was 'negligent' as a matter of law. In such a case, any persons that sustained personal injuries as a direct result of this negligence may be entitled to compensation from insurance policies of interest.
