Cold and icy road conditions throughout Missouri caused numerous automobile accidents on Tuesday.  There was a large pileup near Springfield Missouri this afternoon on Highway 44 and Highway 65, on the westbound exit ramp.  A tractor-trailer and several cars collided on the ramp and numerous motorists sustained personal injuries.  Several injured drivers were ambulated at taken to St. John's Medical Center and Cox Memorial Hospital in Springfield. 

Icy road conditions require motorists to exercise responsible driving habits, including reducing their speed and increasing the distance between each car and truck.  Pay special attention to bridges and overpasses, which can easily freeze overnight and cause a dangerous road condition.  Tractor-trailer drivers should pull over and wait out the dangerous conditions.  These big trucks take an increased distance to stop, and when roads are icy and slick, tractor-trailers take require even more distance to stop or avoid a collision with slowing traffic.
