Missouri Car Accident Seriously Injures Two When Trailer Becomes Unhitched
Two women were seriously injured in a Missouri car accident in Lafayette County. Authorities report that a Ford being driven by Earnest Taylor lost its trailer on Route O, causing the trailer to become an unavoidable obstacle in the roadway. The loose trailer crashed into a Chevy being driven by Kelly Lee of Richmond Missouri. Kelly and her 19 year-old daughter Jacey sustained serious personal injuries in the collision. Jacey was taken to Centerpoint Hospital for emergency care. Kelly Lee's injuries were life-threatening and she was flown to Centerpoint Hospital by LifeFlight EMS. No word on how the two ladies are recovering from their injuries.
Missouri motorists have a strict duty to maintain control of their vehicles AND the trailers that are in tow. This means that in addition to the standard two hitch, a trailer must have a safety chain system or emergency braking system to keep it from becoming detached from the towing vehicle and causing a serious automobile accident, such as what resulted in this case. Failure to properly secure a trailer may result in liability for negligence and negligence per se.
Victims of a Missouri car accident should contact an experienced personal injury attorney. Only an attorney can obtain fair compensation that injury victims are entitled to pursuant to Missouri law.
