19 year-old Edward Veirne was driving the family ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) in Washington Missouri when he allegedly lost control of the 4-wheeler and struck a tree head-on.  19 year-old John Carmell of St. Louis was riding on the back of the ATV when it struck the tree.  Both Veirne and Carmell were thrown from the ATV upon impact.  Both young men were transported to St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis via Air Evac Lifeteam.  St. John Mercy was the closest Level-1 trauma center equiped to handle the serious personal injuries sustained by Veirne and Carmell.
