18 year-old Lauren McDonald of Columbia Missouri was seriously injured in a car accident on Highway 65 in Benton County early Saturday evening.  Authorities report that 76 year-old Donald Daniels of Warsaw Missouri crossed the center line of traffic and crashed into McDonald head-on.  The resulting impact caused severe damage to both vehicles.  Missouri State Highway Patrol officers continue their investigation and report that charges are currently pending.  The driver of the vehicle that McDonald was riding in was reportedly being driven by Vera Carter of Kenton Tennessee.

This stretch of Highway 65 in Benton County results in countless car accidents each year in Missouri.  The highway is a two lane divided roadway, by in some places the road merges together with no barrier in between lanes of traffic.  Head-on car crashes are a common occurrence when a two-lane highway is undivided, as driver inattention and improper passing can cause a serious collision.
