Colorado Tour Bus and Tractor-trailer Crash in Lee's Summit
A charter bus traveling from Colorado was involved in serious collision with a FedEx tractor-trailer near Lee's Summit early this afternoon. Apparently the driver of the tour bus attempted to make a left turn off of eastbound U.S. 50 when it came into contact with the tractor-trailer. The charter bus was transporting five band members when this bus accident occurred.
Charter buses and tractor-trailers are required to follow the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations when operating on U.S. roadways. When traveling through the state of Missouri, bus and truck drivers must also follow the Missouri Statutory Rules of the Road, which require commercial drivers to use the highest degree of care in the operation of their large vehicles. Most trucks and buses tip the scales at over 26,000 pounds, making them extremely difficult to control and stop. When these large buses and trucks are involved in accidents, the resulting personal injuries can be severe.
