High Speed Car Crash in St. Charles Kills 18 year-old O'Fallon Teenager
Authorities responded to a high speed car crash early Thursday morning on westbound I-70 in St. Charles. The scene of the crash was disturbing. 18 year-old Michael Conley was driving his Mitsubishi Eclipse at a high rate of speed when he reportedly lost control of the car and ran off the highway, causing the small car to overturn numerous times before resting in a ditch. His passenger, 18 year-old Steven Bennett of O'Fallon was airlifted to St. Johns Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by the trauma surgeon on duty, Dr. Stanley Sokabu.
This fatality marks the 20th roadway death reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Unfortunately, this tragedy could presumably have been completely avoided by the exercise due care behind the wheel. Driving at high rates of speed on Missouri interstates is a dangerous gamble, no matter how experienced the driver thinks he or she is. Moreover, undertaking this gamble with passengers in the car leaves too much to risk.
The surviving family members of Steven Bennett may possibly have a viable Missouri wrongful death claim. This type of claim is governed by the Missouri Wrongful Death Statute, Section RSMo 537.080.
