Drivers of large trucks wieghing in excess of 10,000 pounds are required to abide by a strict set of state and federal laws with regard to truck operation and maintenance. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations require that all drivers of large trucks are 'fit' to operate such machinery. Aside from obtaining a commercial drivers license (CDL), drivers must also pass numerous safety checks before becoming employed by any commercial motor carrier. Many times our truck accident injury attorneys discover that the truck driver was not properly trained or that a thorough background check into prior accidents was not conducted by the employer.
